# Updating Your M64

WiFi Update

1.  Open the overlay menu (hold Z + Start), navigate to the About tab using L/R, then navigate to “Check for Updates.”
    
2.  Press "A" to check for updates, then press "A" again to view the update changelog once it becomes available.
    
3.  Press Down to navigate through the changelog, then navigate to “Update” and press "A" to begin the update.
    
4.  Once the update begins, the screen will switch to a dedicated updating display. After a successful update, the console will automatically reboot.
    

  

Wired Update

1.  Navigate to the [online updater tool](https://tools.modretro.com/updater) using a Chromium-based web browser, such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
    
    *   Follow the resource setup instructions for your device's operating system.
        
2.  Connect your M64 console to your computer via the power port. 
    
    *   _Note: the included cable is power-only and not supported for this use._
3.  Press “Connect Device.”
    
    *   If your console does not connect, unplug from the power port and plug it back in. 
        
4.  Select your M64 console, then press “Connect.”
    
5.  Ensure your console does not say “Bootloader” as part of its name in  the connection menu.

6.  Press “Update” in the paired device window on your computer.
    
7.  Wait until the update is complete.
    

  

SD™ Card Update

1.  Download the M64.bin file [here](https://tools.modretro.com/downloads/m64-console/).
    
2.  Place M64.bin onto your micro SD™ card.
    
3.  Place your SD card into your console and then power it on.
    
4.  Open the overlay menu (press Z + Start) and navigate to the **About** tab using L/R.
    
5.  Select the **Update from SD™ Card** option and press A to show update information.
    
6.  Press Right to navigate to **Update**, then press A to begin the update.
    
7.  Once the update begins, the screen will report on the update progress. After a successful update, the console automatically reboots.
