Changing Display Resolution:

M64 supports HDMI 2.0 up to 4k60, but a lower resolution may always be selected if desired.

The default resolution is **Auto**. In Auto mode, M64 automatically selects the resolution that the connected display prefers.

_Please note: Some displays prefer 4k30 over 4k60 even for a 4k60-advertised display. For these displays, you need to select the 4k resolution mode on M64 instead of Auto to use 4k60 instead of 4k30. _This is being corrected in a future firmware update.__

If you choose to manually select a different resolution:

1. Navigate to the _Resolution_ setting and press **A** to expand the list of supported resolutions.

2. Navigate to your desired mode using **Up/Down**. Press **A** to select that mode.

3. The video output may cut out for a short period as the resolution is being configured.

4. You will be asked to confirm the resolution, similar to a PC.

5. If the new resolution is not confirmed within 10 seconds the previous resolution will be automatically restored.

Display settings

The look of your games can be changed anytime in the DISPLAY tab of the console. The following settings are available to be modified:

* **Profile:** Controls the look and feel of the game.

    * See _Display Profiles_ below for more info.

* **Image Size:** Changes how large game video is displayed.

    * **Default:** Game video is scaled to match the size of  the screen.

    * **Integer+:** Game video is scaled larger to fill more of the screen but is slightly cropped on the top and bottom.

* **Image Fit:** Changes how the game video is fit to the screen.

    * **Native:** Authentic 4:3 video; has black bars on the left and right.

    * **Stretch:** Stretches game video to fit the screen; great for games with 16:9 output modes.

Display Profiles

M64 supports 4 customizable display profiles to quickly swap between different experiences. These come pre-configured:

* **Clean:** Direct pixel output for a crisp and vivid look.

* **Scanlines:** Adds horizontal scanlines to mimic the retro experience.

* **CRT:** Matches the feeling of playing on a CRT TV.

* **Custom:** An additional profile you can configure to your own perfect look.

Each mode can be customized through a simple set of controls, which provides quick access to the most commonly used settings, or an advanced set of controls, which allow you to adjust each custom setting with greater precision. Pressing **C-Right** on any profile opens the simple control set first. If you wish to tune the full set of controls, choose [Advanced Settings](https://support.modretro.com/en_us/m64-console-configuration-display-settings-advanced-B1HMJARNfg) on this screen. The simple set of controls are:

* **Scanline:** Adjust the strength of horizontal scanline effects.

* **Aperture Grille:** Adjust the strength of vertical grille effects.

* **Sharpness:** Configure the sharpness from very-smooth to pixel-precise.

* **Horizontal Bloom:** Change how much bright pixels lighten neighboring pixels.

* **Gamma Mode:** Adjust brightness to fit modern displays.

    *   **Tube:** No correction applied.

    * **Modern:** Adjust the brightness curve to match modern displays.
